Artist Bio

Originally from Thailand, Thanchanog Ho Mai Chin is currently a multidisciplinary artist based in Singapore. Her citizenship renunciation and migration history have compelled her to work around the theme of identity. Traversing autobiography and memories, Mai Chin is intrigued to explore the notion of time, and consciousness employing light as the constant medium in her work.

Mai Chin has been involved in several virtual and physical exhibitions across Singapore and Europe. Recently, she was selected for a funded digital residency by Syntropy States to produce a video art 'underwater', Syntropy app, 2022. Her team was also selected for the Hearth initiative by Art Outreach and self-curated 'distracting, distracted, distraction' exhibition at Art Outreach, Singapore featuring 'The City(e)scape' series that was previously shown at 'It's Magic. A Beyond Experience' Millepiani, Rome, Italy 2022. In 2021, her work 'Suburbia' video series has been exhibited at 'Mixing Identities', THE LINE London, England, and subsequently at 'Fragmented Identities'  THE ROOM & Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, Venice, Italy during the Venice Biennale. Mai Chin's other work, 'go back to sleep' photography series has been showcased at The Fluxus House, Singapore which was later published in 'Oblique' by Nanyang Academy of Fine Art 2020 and exhibited at Digital Chroma Agency Virtual Gallery 2022.

Apart from her practice, Mai Chin has supported several social cause projects. Namely, a fundraising exhibition 'Embracing Science with Colours: A Pandemic Story' organised by DEKO as an artist in 2022. In 2021, she took part in ASEAN Youth Forum (AYF)'s Yuwana Zine issues #3, #4 and #5, recognised by ARTE Justice New York, as a curator and artist, 'Focus Group Discussions on Human Rights and Climate Change' organised by Raoul Wallenberg Institute in collaboration with AYF as an artist, and 'Cultural Exchange' program by Artists for Digital Rights Network as an artist. In 2020, she was an illustrator for 'Frank Friday' comic series by Mental ACT Singapore, and she was also collaboratively involved in the interdisciplinary project as a set designer and scenographer for a production exploring sustainable clothing production, 'breath' directed by Margret Wibmer.
